For a number of years, I presented my work under the name Habitus Prime. During this period, I explored surrealism, pop culture, and graphic design, creating playful, imagined worlds where familiar forms were distorted, layered, and reimagined. Influenced by retro aesthetics, digital culture, and print media, the work examined identity, emotion, and perception through visually bold, mixed-media compositions.
In recent years, my practice has shifted towards a slower, more observational approach rooted in photography. What began as a return to the camera following the birth of my son gradually developed into a deeper exploration of everyday life, fatherhood, and the changing relationship between creativity and routine. This body of work forms the basis of Nowadays, a photographic project that reflects on the quiet moments, movements, and ordinary experiences that shape contemporary life.
Alongside this, I am developing a longer-term documentary photography project exploring rural landscapes, abandoned farm homes, and changing patterns of rural life across County Louth. Through photography, portraiture, and research-led engagement, I examine themes of memory, place, and lived experience, considering how personal and collective histories remain embedded within the landscape.
Although my visual language has evolved, the core concerns of my practice remain consistent: storytelling, identity, curiosity, and experimentation. Whether documenting intimate family moments or the traces of lives within rural environments, I am interested in how photography can reveal overlooked narratives and encourage a deeper connection to place.
As my practice continues to evolve, public engagement will play an important role. Alongside my photographic work, I am developing workshops, artist talks, and collaborative projects that encourage people to engage with photography as a tool for observation, storytelling, and reflection. I see these activities as opportunities to share ideas, explore creative processes, start conversations around place, memory, and everyday experience.
